tokyo music school

Award winning project and selected university Valedictorian of the Musashino Bijutsu Dygaku (Musashino Art University, Tokyo) Architecture Department, 2016

The Tokyo Water School is a conceptual project for a music school floating on the water. Inspired by Itskushima Jinja, a floating temple on water in Japan, the project's setting is situated on the riverbanks of one of Tokyo's central water canals.

There are two buildings on each side of the river- one the school itself with acoustic classrooms and the other a concert hall, both facing and descending towards the river, offering a perspective of the water. A bridge connects both banks to create the sense of a large guitar in plan, and musical elements are incorporated in the facades so as to allow the entire project to become a large musical instrument by natural elements such as the movement sun and wind and interactive parts. Boats docked in the river by the school enable imagination and rest for the students, as well as to carry out their music to the rest of the city in musical boats.
